Fun Facts
- Nocturnal, sheltering between rocks or burrows during the daytime
- Neck and shoulder quills are the longest measuring 15-30cm
- They rattle their quills to alarm potential predators
- If they choose to use their quills in attack mode they run backwards into their target
- Their feet and hands are broad with long claws used for burrowing
- They have powerful gnawing incisors and no canine teeth
Diet
Fruits, berries, as well as roots and bulbs and bark. Gnaw on dry bones.
