- During winter raccoons sleep for extended periods although they don’t actually hibernate
- To prepare for cold winter Raccoons pack on extra body fat so they don’t have to worry about foraging food when its too cold
- Excellent swimmers and spend a lot of time in water catching food
- The latin name for Racoon, Procyon motor, means washerman. When eating food they look like they are washing their hands
Diet
Racoons get a lot of there food from water crayfish, frogs. They also eat mice and insects and raid nests for tasty eggs, as well as fruits and plants. Like in the movies, they will also ransack rubbish to dine on the contents.
