When we arrived at the property the Racoon Dog, who was permitted to run free in the house and garden, had the householders’ little boys’ hands in its mouth. The boy was screaming and trying to pull away. A loud noise to startle made the dog release its grip on the boy. The Racoon Dog then ran into the house and up the back of the sofa. With permission we ended up having to remove the back of the sofa in order to net and crate the highly stressed Racoon Dog. This Racoon Dog had clearly led a very stressed life and it took more than 8 months for her to fully settle with us. We have placed her with one other Racoon Dog companion in a woodland enclosure where she does not have to see humans, as they truly scare her.
